What is the Liminal Space

This week in EDFD459 we analysed the liminal space, which is an interesting space, kinda what I am feeling like now in this unit. Understanding and knowing the liminal space I think was a key AHA moment for me. The Liminal space is defined as the space between the spaces, a suspended space where students encounter new knowledge. Where learners have to establish the fact that it’s not always about coming up with a quick answer but thinking through the multiple possibilities and exploring the unknown. It is all about the process of learning not necessary the outcome.

Why it is so important:

As educators we need to address that students have different ways of thinking, the liminal space allows for us to see other processes of thinking. I think another important part of why the liminal space is so important is that the space itself allows students to come up with a variety of different solutions to the one problem, not just to solve it quickly. The liminal space allows them to truly think about and analyse a problem rather than just getting the answer and moving on.
