My Ten PLN Netiquette Guidelines

Developed from Shea 1994, there was a list of Ten PLN Netiquette guidelines that are rules or guidelines for appropriate academic behaviour online. It involves the correct acceptable way of using the internet. From this list I have developed my own personal opinion of Ten PLN guidelines when working in an online environment:

1. Respect others and their ideas

2. Be forgiving of other people’s mistakes and remember its ok to make mistakes!

3. Share your knowledge and understanding and except new knowledge from others

4. Stay on task

5. Share and voice your opinion – be your own person.

6. Acknowledge and remember that you are working with human beings

7. Know where you are in the space

8. Demonstrate good writing that is academic

9. Don’t abuse your power- don’t be ‘a know it all’ instead share expert knowledge and accept new learning.

10. Respect people’s privacy – it is an academic space and is not a focus on personal lives.
